Located in Southwestern
Michigan, nestled quietly amid the lakes and trees, Colon is an ideal location
for year-round living, and is a perfect spot for the vacationers seeking
fishing, hunting, swimming, skiing, and other outdoor recreations. The downtown area has shops and restaurants, where you can purchase just about anything, from flowers at the posy shop to a hammer at the hardware store. Just outside of town, acres of farmland make a drive through Amish Country a relaxing experience, with fields of corn and hay lining the country roads. Colon Township's 1000 acres of water provide
year around sport for The state conservation department maintains three public fishing sites in the township, one each on Sturgeon Lake, Palmer Lake, and Long Lake. The Village of Colon also maintains a public launching site and picnic area just south of the downtown business area. Many towns claim their own unique "magic."
But no other town has the MAGIC of Colon - The Magic Capital of
the World. Home of Abbot's Magic Manufacturing Company, the world's
largest producer of magic paraphernalia, Colon becomes the focus of international
attention each August as it hosts a four-day convention of the world's
leading illusionists. Colon is the hometown of Harry Blackstone
Jr. and the cemetery serves as the final resting place of many magic legends.

The St. Joseph River flows across the northern part of the township into
Sturgeon Lake and then on to Lake Michigan. Palmer lake is the largest
of Colon's lakes, covering 450 acres with a shoreline of sixteen miles,
and is used for every known water sport. At the southwest end of
Palmer Lake is channel that connects to Long Lake. There are eight
other lakes in the township and most are public.
